This upbeat master class created by VP Boyle and taught by established Broadway veterans focuses on building a well-rounded audition book by exploring new repertoire and polishing existing material for each performer. There is a strong emphasis on finding material that supports clear casting choices for type, age, personality and voice. You can learn about our fabulous MaxTheatrix coaches by clicking on the images to the right.

From his experience as a professional casting director and from over ten years of his Musical Theatre Forum casting workshop, which has included every Broadway casting office, VP has distinguished six song categories imperative to success: standard ballad, standard uptempo, contemporary ballad, contemporary driving/dramatic, comedy, and pop/rock. This master class also explores additional categories based on the skill set of each individual performer, including: 30’s/40’s, contemporary composers, Sondheim, patter, cabaret, country, and more.

Each participant will work approximately 30 minutes every week in a small and supportive classroom setting. Discussions include "red flag" songs which should be used strategically or with caution, common expectations and suggestions of casting directors, and the best/standard cuts for auditions at the Broadway level. This is a very "results oriented" class that will challenge you as an actor and singer and take your work to the next level. Best part: you'll have fun while doing it!

A PERSONAL NOTE FROM VP: Life is a process and you can’t “fix” or revamp your entire audition book overnight! I have hand picked some of the best coaches in the biz to introduce you to audition freedom and my successful template for revamping your audition material. Finding audition material that achieves the kind of results I’m aiming for includes out of class research and some trial and error. It’s all good! My workshop celebrates learning what to throw out as much as finding that perfect audition song that fits like a well-worn coat. I'm not a fan of any kind of personal psychology or tears in the classroom, but rather choose to focus on the joy and strength of great songs and the people that sing them. Chocolate and treats are always welcomed! This introduction course is a blast and is a pre-requisite for Advanced Build Your Book.
