This spring there are more than TEN Broadway shows that contain pop/rock music. Are you ready for those auditions? If you are a musical theater performer who wants to expand your horizons and prepare for the increasingly frequent demands of pop/rock auditions, this may be the most fun class you ever take! In the first part of The Pop/Rock Workshop, you will begin studying authentic pop styling and finding material that works in audition circumstances. You will also learn to handle rock's sometimes strenuous vocal requirements in a healthy way and practice your new skills by starting every class with Riff-O-Rama, a creative riffing warmup. As the workshop progress, you will keep a Rock Star Journal, experiment with clothing styles, and complete some outside homework. Don't worry–it’s all fun! By the end of the class, you will be able to walk into the audition room armed with at least two polished pop/rock pieces. This workshop is not for legit/opera singers or aspiring recording artists. It was created specifically for musical theatre singers who want to maximize their castability for pop/rock musicals. Don't be just another musical theater performer who attempts to sing pop songs–walk into the room knowing that you can knock them out of the park! A PERSONAL NOTE FROM VP: This workshop always gives me a buzz! You have to come to the plate ready to play and be fearless. It can be physical, irreverent, silly, sexy, crazy and most of all successful in achieving results. Expect to go shopping for some new clothes (or hitting the vintage/thrift shops!) and possibly paying to have your final audition cuts arranged by a professional. Oh, and you will hit a couple of clunker notes while trying to riff in our weekly warm-up right next to me - and we will be LOUD in our celebration of those great mistakes. | ||
